Overview:

Our website address is: https://www.svseaodyssey.com.

As it pertains to your privacy and information collected, we do not in any way desire to collect and sell your information to any other being whatsoever for any reason whatsoever.  We are just people who have a blog to communicate with the world.

Protections are set in place to protect the smalls bits of information we do get from visits, comments, and submitted forms.  If you are curious of who, what, and where, please read below for the details.

The basic information we receive from signing up for ‘Sea Odyssey News’ is privacy regulated and customizable through the various parties and their privacy policies as described below.  We only send emails for the reasons you signed up for and you can unsubscribe at any time without further communications.  There is a link at the bottom of every email if you wish to discontinue.

We will also ask for some basic information when you choose to leave a comment on our website.  This is for no other reason than it makes sense to leave your name, etc. so we can reply to each other properly.  If at any time you want us to see, change, or remove your information we have, we will be happy to do so, with exception to change information for the purpose to mislead.

Our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy:

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

If you are using a Gravatar service, an anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it.  After approval of your comment, your profile picture will then visible to the public in the context of your comment.  You can review Gravatar’s privacy policy here: Automattic’s privacy policy.

Visitor comments are checked through Askimet, an automated spam detection service before they are posted on the site.  For this purpose Akismet will typically collect the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).  You can review the Askiment service privacy policy at Automattic here: Automattic’s privacy policy.  The collection of any data by other third-party service providers is dictated by their respective privacy policies.

We offer email subscriptions only on a signup basis.  We use these submissions for as long as you permit.  Unsubscribe at any time.  The information submitted will not be used further, for any other purpose or shared.

Upon subscribing, the following information is used.  The subscriber’s name, email address and the ID of the post or comment.  In the event of a new subscription being initiated, we also collect some basic server data, including all of the subscribing user’s HTTP request headers, the IP address from which the subscribing user is viewing the page, and the URI which was given in order to access the page (REQUEST_URI and DOCUMENT_URI). This server data is used for the exclusive purpose of monitoring and preventing abuse and spam.

We use Mailchimp as our email service.  Please review their privacy policy and terms of use here: Mailchimp: Privacy for Contacts.  If you wish to change or discontinue your existing subscription, you can manage or opt out by clicking on the subscription tools at the bottom of any subscription e-mail.  There are links to “unsubscribe” as well as links to change your e-mail settings under “manage subscriptions”.

Cookies

Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your Web browser (if you allow) that enable the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies.  This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices.  Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year.  If you select “Remember Me”, then your login will persist, but if you log out of your account, then login cookies will be removed.

If you leave a comment, then the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely.  You may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies.  This is for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment.  These cookies will last for one year.

If you want to limit or disable cookies, you can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies and delete any previously-set cookies.  This is managed through your cookie browser settings.

Note that if you deactivate the setting of cookies in your internet browser, not all functions of our website may be entirely usable.  Also note that if you delete your cookie history in your internet browser, you will get asked for your acceptance or information upon each engagement.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely.  For users that register on our website, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile.   All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username).  We, Matt and Emily, can also see and edit that information.

Third Parties

sv Sea Odyssey uses a third-party service provider to service an aspect of the website.  Third parties may collect certain aspects of personal data and/or use cookies to deliver their services.  Third-party service provider’s use of your personal information is dictated by their respective privacy policies.

We use Google Analytics to collect statistical information regarding website traffic and website usage.  Google Analytics data is not personally identifiable and does not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google.  You can read about Google Analytics cookies usage here.  In addition, you may opt-out of Google Analytics cookies altogether by installing Google Analytics Opt-Out Add-on on your browsers.

We are a member of the Amazon Services Associates Program.  This an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and links to Amazon.com.  As part of this Amazon Associates program, we will post customized links, provided by Amazon, to track the referrals to their website.  This program utilizes cookies to track visits for the purposes of assigning commission on these sales.

Amazon Native Shopping Ads and Amazon CPM Ads display ads on some of our pages.  As an Amazon Associate,  we earn from qualifying purchases.  You can review Amazon’s privacy policy regarding advertising here.  The links on that page also describe what data is collected and how to opt out of personalized advertising using Amazon Advertising Preferences and other methods.

You may opt-out of personalized internet advertising altogether.  You have the choice to experience this website (or any other website) without personalized advertising based on your web browsing activity by visiting the DAA’s Consumer Choice page, the NAI’s website, and/or the EU online choices page from each of your browsers or devices.  To avoid personalized advertising based on your mobile app activity, you can install the DAA’s AppChoices app here.  Note that even if you choose not to have your activity tracked by third parties for advertising services, you will still see non-personalized ads on our site.

However, in order for Sea Odyssey to get associated with affiliate marketing, the link needs to be tracked.  If you click on a link in an affiliate partnership, a cookie will be placed on your browser to track any sales for purposes of commissions.

You may opt-out of affiliate tracking.  One way to not receive an affiliate tracking cookie is to simply not click on an affiliate link on this website.  You can also choose to turn off all cookies and delete any previously set cookies in your browser settings.  Each browser is a little different, so look at your browser’s help menu to learn the correct way to modify your cookies.  Again, it should be noted, if you deactivate the setting of cookies in your internet browser, not all functions of our website may be entirely usable.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.).  Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.  These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.  Act accordingly.
